About the Institute

Institute of Sociological Studies (ISS) is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) at Charles University. The mission of ISS integrates two primary functions:

  • to educate university graduated specialists in the fields of sociology, social policy and public policy;

  • to develop scientific activity in the fields mentioned above.

  • Analysis of the development of civil (non-profit) sector in the Czech Republic in comparative perspective.

  • History of and current trends in sociological theory;

  • Communication research, research of attitudes and public opinion.

  • Developing narrative, discursive and textual analysis in the social sciences.

  • Research on collective memory.
