Sustainability issues are at the forefront of scientific enquiry, academic research and wider social concern. It is widely acknowledged that addressing sustainability issues requires an interdisciplinary approach as well  long-term stakeholder collaboration in the form of partnerships between governments and the private sector, and civil society. To this end, we are proposing a joint initiative that will bring together researchers that focus on sustainability related issues in different organisational sectors. From our respective institutions, the initiative will bring together researchers from Charles University who have a public sector focus (in the areas of public policy, public administration and procurement) with researchers from the  University of St Andrews who have a private sector focus (in the areas of ESG reporting and disclosure, CSR governance and management).

Through developing and participating in intense online research workshops, the joint initiative will aim to: (i)  identify different approaches to the organisational management of sustainability in the public and private sectors, and; (ii) develop an understanding of the different theoretical approaches and research methodologies that are employed by researchers who focus on these different sectors.  In this respect,  the proposed initiative can help identify potential strengths and weaknesses in the management of sustainability in different sector contexts. Further,  by harnessing the expertise of researchers from different backgrounds, and whose research takes a different organisational focus, the joint inititive can help identify potential collaborations between researchers and PhD students from each institution, leading to the development of potential new projects and publication activities.
